Hon Kelly Vincent

universal desginThe Honourable Kelly Vincent MLC is a trailblazer, she’s the youngest woman ever elected to an Australian parliament, and the first to be elected on a disability rights platform, she holds her seat as Leader of Dignity Party in the South Australian Legislative Council.

First elected in 2010, Kelly gets results through her parliamentary work, among her achievements:
• Kelly took the lead in establishing SA’s Disability Justice Plan;

• She instigated a select committee into education for students with disabilities,
• She promoted successful amendments to ensure that universal design principles are considered in SA planning law.

Kelly considers that when it comes to universal design, the built environment is only the beginning. Transportation systems, housing design, tourist infrastructure, employment websites and education all need universal design principles applied to them.

The more policy-makers and practitioners, and at all levels of government come to understand the social and economic imperatives of real inclusion of all people, the more incumbent it is on us to find ways to enable that inclusion and participation.
